Training Programs Sneak Peek Video

My 400m and 800m training programs are versatile and can be used for more than a means to get you your fastest 400m and/or 800m time in 12-20 weeks. You could use either training program to prepare for basic training and/or use any of the workouts for off season, summer, and winter training.

The goal with the 400m training program and 800m training programs is to challenge you a little, then a little more, then a little more, and then a little more. With this training principle, the idea is to allow you to improve your performance with each challenge rather than fully submerge you into a state of fatigue, because if you did that, then you would improve very slowly or even worse, not at all.

What should I expect with a 400m or 800m training program

You can expect to have a wide variety of 400m and 800m specific workouts that are designed to prepare you to run a solid 400m and an aggressive 800m. The workouts in these two training programs are not impossible but they are no walk in the park either. As mentioned before, the workouts are based on percentages of what you are capable of based on the testing throughout the 12-20 week training schedule. I have also included training notes in the form of FAQ’s to help you understand your training schedule. It’s real simple. If you are looking at the training schedule and are confused about something on it, all you have to do is review the notes and you should be good to go.

Who are the 400m and 800m training programs designed for

My 400m and 800m training programs are designed for any athlete who is interested in taking their athletic abilities to higher levels. Whether you are in junior high, high school, college, part of a club team, or even preparing for basic training, they are designed to help you reach your potential.

What type of workouts could I expect to see in the 400m training program

When we think of the 400m, we think “sprinting event”. Yes, the 400m is a sprinting event but there is more to running a fast 400m than just sprint workouts. However, just like most sprinting events, there is an acceleration, to some degree maximal race velocity, and maintenance of this sub-maximal velocity. The only wrench thrown into this sprinting equation is that due to the length of this sprinting event, there will be a rather large accumulation of hydrogen ions that will ultimately slow down the rate of glycolysis and limit the muscles ability to produce force efficiently. In order to prepare the 400m athlete in running their best 400m in 12-20 weeks time, the type of workouts involved in this training program will develop speed, power, strength, mobility, acceleration, anaerobic capacity, coordination, sub maximal velocity, and long speed endurance.

What type of workouts could I expect to see in the 800m training program

When we think of the 800m, we think “distance event”. Yes, the 800 is an event that most distance runners compete in, but running a fast 800m is more than just long runs. In fact, 800m is similar to the 400m with the exception of the 800m being anaerobic enough to feel like a 400m and aerobic enough to feel like the mile. However, just like the 400m, there is an acceleration, sub maximal race velocity, and maintenance of this sub-maximal velocity. And just like the 400m, the 800m is fast enough that there will be a rather large accumulation of hydrogen ions that will ultimately slow down the rate of glycolysis and limit the muscles ability to produce force efficiently. The 800m is also long enough that the aerobic energy system will have to aid in the body’s ability to provide sustained energy to the needing muscles all while trying to push the limits of the anaerobic system. In order to prepare the 800m athlete in running their best 800m in 12-20 weeks time, the type of workouts involved in this training program will develop speed, power, strength, aerobic capacity, aerobic power, mobility, acceleration, coordination, anaerobic capacity, sub maximal velocity, and long speed endurance.
